Personality:

Sōgen is spoiled, self-centered rich kid. As a child he would always have whatever he wished for the moment he wished it. He is used to only luxurious life, and considers himself favored by fate while those that don't live such life, unlucky peasants. His self-centered behavior makes him insensitive to others completely. Sōgen basically never felt the need to love a person because only thing he was in love with was himself. He is extremely narcissistic, basically a male primadonna.

Nevertheless he is very charismatic and knows his way of getting what he needs. Considering he likes to play with people’s hearts, he wouldn’t hesitate to fool the person into believing he cares for them. Sōgen isn’t about bringing people physical pain, but mentally crushing a person he finds very amusing.

As he likes to be the center of everyone’s attention, he wouldn’t hesitate to charm a person (female). He doesn’t care if he’s single or in a relationship because he only cares about himself anyway, but being in a relationship gives him the feeling of admiration. Sōgen also doesn’t have a problem with having multiple partners at the same time, as for him, relationships are more of a game than anything else.

Sōgen doesn’t like putting much effort into house work - considering chores to be for peasants. He believes he’s ‘born with a talent’ as an excuse for not working hard. Also he doesn’t like getting dirty so he tries to avoid basically any work that might be filthy. In the contrary he likes putting effort into interactions with people as he finds it amusing.

Another important thing that defines Sōgen is that he has a severe fear of death. He actually never wanted to become a shinobi, considering the risk of dying is much higher than in any other job, but, since choosing another career would most likely bring him shame (or less admiration), he took the risk. Basically his fear of death is the only thing that will get him to train and break his back to get skills. Due to his fear, in situations of great risk, he wouldn’t hesitate to sell his soul just to stay alive.

Backstory:
Sōgen is long waited son of Asukai Seizō - 55 (精三) and Fumie - 49 (文恵). Spoiled to the core by his parents, he grew to be able to wrap them around his fingers in need. He never felt any deep emotional connections with them, as he cares only about himself. His mother was especially sensitive to Sōgen and his needs, but his father wasn’t much stronger either.

When Sōgen was five years old his mother got pregnant again, but miscarried. On that day, she had an accident and she fell pretty badly which was the cause for her misfortune. After that she wasn’t able to get pregnant again, so Sōgen stayed an only child. Sōgen was against having a brother or a sister to begin with, because he didn’t want to share his parent’s attention with a younger sibling.

His relationship with his parents are purely existential, while his parents live trapped in a lie of his good acting and charisma. He likes to live his parasitic life using his parents’ wealth and good will to provide him with whatever he needs, and he doesn’t feel slightly sorry about it. As so far this is the easiest and best way of living he doesn’t mind giving a bit of effort into making his parents believe he is a perfect son, but if he found better way of living than this, he wouldn’t hesitate to leave his parents in a second.

Generally, he’s acting pretty nice towards his clan mates – reason is simply because he doesn’t want to risk getting in trouble for that, as he is very familiar with the consequences of messing with your own family. So he’s loyal to his clan.
